The Pangjiazhuang bauxite deposit in Jiaokou County, Shanxi Province is a typical karst bauxite deposit. The orebodies occur in the Upper Carboniferous Benxi Formation, which is underlain by Middle Ordovician limestones. Studies of immobile elements ratios such as Zr/Hf, Nb/Ta, bivariate plots of Eu/Eu* and TiO2/Al2O3, and REE pattern suggest that Middle Ordovician limestones are the major source of materials for the bauxite formation. And the alumino-silicate rocks may provide some source of materials for the formation of bauxite ores.
