///With the world economic development, population expansion and the acceleration of urbanization process, the restrictions of human living and production is also increasing. The loss of ground elevation on the soft clay of Cenozoic sedimentary strata, which is mainly caused by land subsidence, becomes one of the largest global environmental problems. The land subsidence of soft clay is including natural and man-made content, which leads to the research on the mechanism of land subsidence constituted by two different aspects, which are studied by geological engineers and geologist. The main major research focuses on the effect of engineering. The land subsidence of soil in engineering mechanics is caused by the consolidation and compression of soft clay. This paper analyzes the loss of ground elevation from geological factors.
