Large numbers of microfossils have been found recently in Baicaoping Formation shales at the Luoquancun section in Ruzhou, Henan Province, obtained from palynological macerations and petrological thin sections. This discovery expands the range of their distribution and has provided new material for detailed study. According to our morphological analysis and comparison with assemblages from the Torridon Group of northwestern Scotland, the authors support an early Neoproterozoic rather than Mesoproterozoic age assignment.
