Tais volume is based on the Student’s Handbook of Historical Geologvl, published by Messrs. G. Bell and Sons, and may be regarded as a second edition of that book, but it has been entirely re-written, and its title is altered from Historical eology to Stratigraphical Geology, because it is considered that the latter is the more customary designation of the subject, though the former is, strictly speaking, the more accurate and comprehensive term.
