Two triangular calixarene-based coordination assemblies, namely [M9sub>(HTC4A)3sub>(ox)3sub>Cl3sub>(H2sub>O)6sub>] [M = Co (CIAC-214) and Ni (CIAC-215); H4sub>TC4A = p-tert-butylthiacalix[4]arene; H2sub>ox = oxalic acid], were synthesized by solvothermal reactions. In both structures, three shuttlecock-like M3sub>-TC4A secondary building units (SBUs) as the vertices are bridged by three ox linkers to form a triangular assembly. Remarkably, the activated cobalt compound with Lewis acid sites shows high heterogeneous catalysis in the degradation of methyleneblue (with conversion of nearly 70 % in 10 min of the 3rd run) and the reduction of 2, 4-dinitrophenol (with conversion of 95.3 % in 60 min). The catalyst can be easily separated and recovered from the reaction system without significant loss of catalytic activity.
