A fast, calibrated model for pyroclastic density currents kinematics and hazard

Turbulent pyroclastic density currents are simulated with 2D and integral (box) models. The box-model validity is explored in a wide range of particle concentrations and sizes. Box-model free parameters are calibrated by means of 2D numerical simulations. An energy-conoid approach is developed as a fast flow emulator for hazard assessment. The energy-conoid is preferable to the energy-cone but still has main limitations.
