Release of juvenile sandfish Holothuria scabra at neap tide by boat is a viable alternative to hand release.
Recaptures from chute release was higher (18.9%) than from temporary cages (10.6%).
Chute release is also more effective economically and logistically.
Sandfish moved in various directions during 5 months post release and most did not travel far.
It is critical to time boat releases around the slack period of a neap tide.
