Mononuclear and hetero bi-trinuclear polymer complexes of nickel(II), copper(II) and oxovanadium(IV) chloride with 2-acrylamido-1-phenyl-2-aminothiourea (APATH) monomer derived from amidation of acryloyl chloride with 2-amino-1-phenylthiourea have been prepared. A few bi- or trimetallic polymer complexes have also been obtained by the reaction of nickel(II) or copper(II) bidentate poly-chelate with tin(IV), selenium(IV), tellurium(IV) or zirconium(IV) chlorides and uranyl acetate. These polymer complexes have been characterized on the basis of their elemental analysis, magnetic susceptibility, electronic and infrared spectral data, EPR and thermal analysis. The amine homopolymer exchange reactions of coordinated poly-chelate in symmetrical and unsymmetrical bidentate homopolymer complexes have been studied. Metal exchange reaction of the polymer oxovanadium(IV) complex with CuCl2·2H2O gives the corresponding Cu(II) polymer complex. Reaction of bidentate poly-Schiff base complex of Cu(II) with VOCl2·5H2O gives a heterobinuclear complex containing Cu(II) and oxovanadium(IV). All the polymer complexes are greenish-coloured solids and appear to be non-electrolytes in DMF. Magnetic, electronic and IR spectral information suggests that configurations of square planar nickel(II) polymer complexes have changed to octahedral as a result of reaction with tin(IV) chloride.
