Out diffusion of silver from glass leads to the formation of metal nanoisland film. Thermal poling of the glass allows prescribed growing of single nanoislands. These nanoislands and nanoisland films are capable of Raman scattering enhancement. Raman enhancements by a single nanoisland and by the nanoisland film are close. Single nanoislands are better than the films for tuning the enhancement spectrum.
