We construct a virtual optical system aligned with the beam propagation direction. The propagation of a tilted beam is studied in the virtual system. A more complete diffraction integral for the virtual system is derived. The precise optical field distribution of a tilted beam after a system is obtained. The virtual system and its conclusion are verified by ZEAMAX simulation directly.
