Late Permian basalts in the Yanghe area, eastern Sichuan Province, SW China: Implications for the geodynamics of the Emeishan flood basalt province and Permian global mass extinction
We recognized the Fe-Ti-rich tholeiitic basalts with OIB-like geochemical signature in the Yanghe area. The Yanghe basalts represent a portion of the ELIP. The re-estimated area of the ELIP is ∼7 × 105 km2 much bigger than previously thought. The spatial increase of the ELIP strengthens the causal link between the flood basalts and end-Guadalupian mass extinction.
