New Er3+ doped glass ceramics with β-Na(Gd,Lu)F4 nanocrystals has been prepared. The distribution of the rare earth ions in the material has been analyzed. A preferential incorporation of Gd3+ ions in β-Na(Gd,Lu)F4 has been detected. An enhancement of upconversion luminescence of Er3+ ions has been discussed.
