Orexin-deficient mice were used to study treatments’ effects on narcoleptic episodes.
Reboxetine (≥0.55 mg/kg) and escitalopram (≥3.0 mg/kg) reduced narcoleptic episodes.
Cirazoline and prazosin did not significantly affect narcoleptic episodes.
That is, norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (NERI) were most potent.
This argues for the use of NERIs in narcolepsy treatment.
