Shale gas reservoir characteristics of Lower Gondwana deposits in Raniganj basin, India. In-situ gas content and high pressure methane sorption revealed low to moderately saturated shale gas reservoir. Immature to matured organic rich shales prone for wet and dry gas genesis essence from TOC and pyrolysis studies. Pore geometry categorized from N2 sorption such as cylindrical, slit and bottle neck pores, mostly dominated by mesopores. SEM imaging pointed dissolved pores, open pores associated with organic matter, inter-granular and micro-fractures.
