Aspirin increases mitochondrial—but inhibits peroxisomal—fatty acid oxidation. Aspirin acetylates mitochondrial proteins including fatty acid oxidation enzymes. SIRT3 does not influence the effect of aspirin on fatty acid oxidation. Increased fatty acid oxidation is likely due to altered mitochondrial morphology and respiration.
