CrustinPm1 and crustinPm7 bound to phosphatidic acid (PA) with high affinity and positive cooperativity. It is possible that crustins gain antimicrobial activity through targeting with PA, a lipid signaling messenger. CrustinPm1 was mediated through the Toll signaling pathway, while crustinPm7 was regulated through both the Toll and Imd pathways.
