We discuss tectonic movements in Japan on timescales of 50 yr, 6 kyr and 125 kyr.
We compare observed relative sea-level changes with predictions due to GIA processes.
The inferred rates for 6 kyr are wholly consistent with those for 125 kyr.
The rates for 50 yr differ significantly from those for 6 and 125 kyr at most sites.
The inferred rates would be useful in discussing the recurrence of great earthquakes.
