Py-GC–MS provide information on the nature of biochars. Methyl Naphthalene/Naphthalene ratio is a suitable index to evaluate the carbonization degree. Indole/naphthalene ratio provide information on the presence of proteinaceous compounds. TGA of biomass is useful to estimate the quantity of biochar that could be produced.
