Guarana (Paullinia cupana) ameliorates memory impairment and modulates acetylcholinesterase activity in Poloxamer-407-induced hyperlipidemia in rat brain
Guaraná reduced total cholesterol and LDL-C in hyperlipidemic rats. Guarana prevents memory impairment induced by hyperlipidemia. Anxiety-like behaviors is not altered either by hyperlipidemia or by guarana, caffeine or simvastatin. Guarana prevented the alterations induced by hyperlipidemia in AChE activity in the hippocampus. Guarana could be used as adjuvant therapy in hyperlipidemic patients.
