The WAG/Rij rats have genetic predisposition to absence epilepsy.
Early postnatal experience is capable to modify EEG absence seizures in adulthood.
WAG/Rij rats fostered to the non-epileptic dams showed fewer and shorter seizures.
They also showed ∼1.2 Hz increase in frequency of pre- & postictal EEG.
Absence seizures did not appear in non-epileptic rats cross-fostered to WAG/Rij dams.
