We presented FSI approach with hybrid DES model for simulations of VIV at subcritical Reynolds number.

The numerical model was validated against experimental data for fixed cylinder with excellent agreement.

The hybrid DES model showed superiority in prediction compared to traditional RANS.

Hybrid DES model was able to capture various wake flow patterns observed in VIV.

The proposed FSI approach provided good prediction of VIV responses for cylinders with one and two DOF.
