Stress corrosion cracking (SCC) behavior of friction stir welded maraging steel is reported for the first time. Formation of reverted austenite pool during fusion welding is suppressed in friction stir welding (FSW). Segregation of allowing elements during fusion welding, resulting poor properties, is not observed in FSW. FSW is proposed as an alternative to the conventional fusion welding technique for better SCC resistance.
