Concentration of metals (V, Cd, PB and Hg) at Thoothukudi and Vizhinjam ports and bioremediation of metals by solitary ascidian Phallusia nigra were compared.
The concentration of metals showed significant differences between the stations and station 1 recorded higher level of metal concentration.
The concentration of these metals between tunic and mantle body of P. nigra showed significant difference (>0.005) in both stations.
The candidate species, P. nigra, clearly showed that this sedentary organism could accumulate all the toxic heavy metals to a greater extent than those detected in sea water.
