We studied mercury dynamics in reservoir sediments experiencing wet and dry cycles. Sediment and porewater methylmercury was higher in areas experiencing water-level fluctuations. Mercury partitioned into porewater was enhanced by sediment wetting/drying cycles. Sulfate levels and cycling was higher in sediments experiencing wetting/drying cycles. Reservoir management actions can influence methylmercury production.
