High weight gain during pregnancy increases the risk for emergency caesarean section - Population-based data from the Swedish Maternal Health Care Register 2011-2012
Overweight and obesity at enrolment in antenatal care increased the risk for emergency CS for both primiparous and multiparous women. Weight gain during pregnancy above IOM guidelines increased the risk for emergency CS for normal weight, overweight and obese women. There is a need for guidelines for weight gain during pregnancy in order to improve the preventive work to avoid unnecessary weight gain that increases the risk for emergency CS.
