IO3− can be photodegraded by UV irradiation with pseudo-first order kinetics. Solution pH has no remarkable influence on the photodegradation rate of IO3−. The I− and HOI derived from the photoreduction of IO3− were determined. The presence of NOM greatly enhanced the photolysis rate of IO3−. NOM sources can affect the formation of I-THMs in UV-chlor(am)ination of IO3−.
