In this study, a new energy system for multigeneration is developed for sustainable utilization of agricultural bio-waste. Rice husk biomass that constitutes a major waste product of rice agriculture is used. The route of gasification is utilized as the primary system process that integrates with other subsystems to produce multiple useful commodities. The combined cycle is employed for power generation through effective waste heat recovery. An absorption cooling cycle is used to obtain the required cooling effect through available waste heat. Moreover, freshwater is produced from wastewater brine through a combined membrane and evaporation-based water treatment process. At design conditions, the overall energetic performance is determined to entail an efficiency value of 66.4%. Also, the overall exergetic efficiency is evaluated to be 44.4%. Moreover, the energy efficiency of the water treatment subsystem is found to entail a value of 69.4% and the exergetic performance is determined to be 12.7%. A comparatively high exergy destruction rate of 26.1 MW is found to be associated with the gas turbine. Various sensitivity analyses are also conducted to investigate the performances under varying operating parameters, and the efficiencies of the developed system are observed to rise to 69.2% and 52.9%, energetically and exergetically with an increased biomass utilization of 2.2 kg/s, respectively."
