•LCA of landfilling and reuse in road of RDF incineration and gasification BA.•Experimental data employed for modeling the leaching of contaminants from BA.•Influence on results of leaching test type and scenario assumptions was assessed.•Leaching from incineration BA significantly affected toxicity impact categories.•Low leaching from gasification BA yielded minor impacts especially for road reuse.
