Microbe-Assisted Phytoremediation for Restoration of Biodiversity of Degraded Lands: A Sustainable Solution
详细信息
摘要
Various natural and anthropogenic activities affect the land ecosystem which results in the loss of cultivated land, forest or grazing land, leading to the overall loss of production. The restoration of such degraded lands in practice can largely be considered as ecosystem restoration for the re-establishment of the capability of the land to capture and retain its fundamental resources. Microbe-assisted phytoremediation (MAP) technology is a recent and very effective technology for the restoration of biodiversity of the degraded land. An ecosystem development model is presented herewith where the role of all influencing factors is taken into consideration for the restoration of degraded land. There are a number of environmental and socio-economic benefits of MAP technology which includes restoration of wasteland productivity, high survival rate of plants, increase in biomass and carbon dioxide sequestration. The MAP technology can be utilized in the remediation of various sites contaminated with metals, hydrocarbons and pesticides etc.
