摘要
巴里在《无尽长日》里从复仇、物化和失德等方面描写了人性扭曲现象,展现了美国印第安人战争和南北战争的社会问题和心理危机。该小说从非理性复仇、血亲性复仇和虐待性复仇等方面抨击白人殖民者借用武器优势欺凌、虐待和屠杀印第安人的暴行,揭露了白人殖民者把印第安人物化成金钱、性玩具和战利品的丑恶动机,揭示了人性中最本质、最隐秘和最阴暗的一面。
In Days Without End,Sebastian Barry delineates the distortion of humanity from the aspects of revenge,reification and loss of morality,disclosing the social problems and psychic crisis in the Indian War and Civil War in America. From the angles of unreasonable revenge,sanguine revenge and ill-treatment revenge,this novel denounces white colonizers' atrocities as they take advantage of their weapons to bully,maltreat and slaughter Indians,reveals their evil motivation in their reification of Indians as money,sex toys and war trophies and highlights the most intrinsic,cryptic and seamy sides of human nature.
