Bauxite-bearing rock series in the southern Chongqing-northern Guizhou area are underlain by the Hanjiadian Group shale and Huanglong Formation limestone, and overlain by carbonaceous shales. Several different opinions about the age of the bauxite-bearing rock series are reviewed. The underlying limestone should be Early Permian in age based on occurrence of the conodonts Streptognathodus oppletus Ellison and Streptognathodus gracilis Stauffer et Plummer. The age of the bauxite-bearing rock series can be constrained by underlying limestone and overlying Qixia Formation. Combined with other stratigraphic data, our data suggest that the bauxite-bearing rock series is late Early Permian (Kungurian) in age.
