According to reservoir size sequential method deficiency, hydrocarbon resource in Southern Junggar Foreland Thrust Belt was predicted with improved reservoir size sequential model, making use of the latest exploration data. Research indicates that in Southern Junggar Foreland Thrust Belt, 89 reservoirs are not found and residual proved reserves are about 11 543.6×104 t, which is 2.0 times known proved reserves, reflecting higher exploration potential. At the same time, there are 8 reservoirs are found and the largest reservoir size of known proved reserves is 1 732.4×104 t, one third predicted ones, which is 5 130.7×104 t. Combined with characters of tectonic evolution and trap types, emphases of exploration in this area should be turned about subtle traps with larger size and more difficult exploration degree after comprehensive analysis.
