Northeast China is the most important area of placer gold production in China. Because it is covered with forests and swamps, prospecting placer gold is difficult and slow progress is made in this area for a long time. This paper utilized the information method to study the relationship between primary gold distribution density and large-to middle-sized primary gold deposits in this region. The results suggest that placer gold distribution density can be indicative of the occurrence of primary gold deposits. An area with higher the gold placer distribution density has a larger possibility to discover primary gold deposits. Using this criterion, seven metallogenic prospective regions are delineated in Northeast China.
