Shale gas and shale oil are petroleum generated and accumulated in source rocks. They are remained oil and gas in source rocks. The gas remained in source rocks mainly adsorbed by organics or free in pore. Shale gas survey, exploration and development have just started in China. In oil and gas basins, we can find oil and gas exploration and development data to help us to get the data such as TOC, Ro, thickness, distribution, oil and gas showings of source rocks etc. In the basins that have not found conventional oil and gas, the authors lack the basic data needed for evaluating the shale gas. The availability of basic data in different basins needed for evaluating shale gas and shale oil is different, so the starting point and indexes used for shale gas(oil) geological evaluation are different.
