According to the survey data of oil wells in Dagang oilfield and a lot of laboratory data, the paper discussed the relationship between the consolidation characteristics in Tertiary system and land subsidence in Tianjin. It was considered that the Teriany system in Tianjin reached a normally consolidated state, except the strata deeper than 2 500 m in down-warping region and the first sea-facies strata in Binhai area. And the water-bearing strata with long-term over-exploitation had been in an over consolidated state. The strata shallower than 1 000 m were in an early consolidated state, in which the pore water could be discharged, which led land subsidence to happen.
