Abnormal Surface Latent Heat Flux Prior to the Wenchuan MS8.0 Earthquake
In this paper, surface latent heat flux (SLHF) data is processed and analyzed before the Wenchuan MS8.0 Earthquake. According to the results, SLHF abnormity appeared in local area 7 days before the earthquake. The abnormity information showed weak initially and then became strong gradually and became weak eventually. SLHF abnormity was very strong when the main earthquake took place. There were two high SLHF value points which appeared in relative low stress area with developed active faults. SLHF abnormity became weak quickly after the main shock. SLHF abnormity area migrated with time along main focus faults. 7 days’ synthetic SLHF abnormity area covers around Longmenshan Faults and the epicenter of the main shock locates in the center of the abnormity area.
