In order to avoid the influences of mineral structures and reduce matrix effects, a fusion method has been developed as the sample preparation step for the analysis of 9 major and minor elements components in baryte ores with X-ray fluorescence spectrometry. The fusing conditions were thoroughly studied for the optimization of instrument parameters, and then corresponding working curves were established. The relative standard deviations (RSD) for each element analyzed was less than 10%, and analysis accuracy was in good agreement with ISO9507. The results indicated that this method was accurate, and well suited for the analysis of baryte ores.
