Determining Method and Its Application of the Smallest Oil-Bearing Throat Radius in an Oil Layer: Taking Fuyang Oil Reservoirs in North Songliao Basin as an Example

Due to engineering conditions, operation cost factor and so on, the most accurate obtaining method of initial oil saturation by oil-base mud or sealed coring is not generally used. Instead of the above, the method of capillary pressure curve by mercury injection is commonly adopted indirectly and moreover the smallest oil-bearing throat radius is the key factor in the above calculation. Therefore, the radius determination for sandstone oil reservoirs possesses very important significance for the indirect calculation of the above oil saturation, oil and water distribution, oil reservoir evaluation, reservoir forming dynamics and so on. With the help of the analyzed initial oil saturation data of actual sealed core samples, the smallest oil-bearing throat radius can be reversely calculated and furthermore the method is more reliable and practical than the others. In detail, the commonly used three calculating methods of initial oil saturation by capillary pressure curve are presented. The smallest oil-bearing throat radius in Fuyang oil reservoirs of North Songliao Basin is calculated. The observation of the crude oil morphology in reservoir pores under Laser Co-focal Scanning Microscope offers the direct proof of the smallest oil-bearing throat. Finally, the reservoir forming dynamics is studied with the help of the smallest throat radius.
