Urban 3D geological information system has been severing as a powerful tool for Shanghai urban geological study. This paper firstly reviews the current status of the system and analyzed the problem that the system is facing. And then, it proposes updating target and main functions of the system. In the end, the key techniques related to updating such as massive data processing and visualization, 3D geological modeling, over ground and underground integration, 4D simulation, 3D models Website release are also discussed.
