The Wuzunbulake Section is located at the southern foot of Tianshan Mountains in the northwestern region of the Tarim Basin. Five fusuline assemblages were recognized, ranging from Late Moscovian (Late Carboniferous) to Artinskian (Early Permian). The fusuline assemblages can be correlated with those from South China and the Russian Platform. The general appearance is most similar to those of the Ermarat Formation from the Alborz Mountains of Iran.
