This symposium, 4^(th)in the series, has been sponsored by the Metallurgical Society and the Environmental Society of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum(CIM). Earlier symposia in the series were held at the annual Conference of Metallurgists(COM)in Edmonton, Alberta in 1992, Vancouver, British Columbia 1995, and Calgary, Alberta in 1998. The symposia provide an on-going record of the progress made in the fields of waste processing and recycling in the mineral & metallurgical industries subjects that become ever more important as theindustry strives to more along the path to more sustainable operations.
