Illite separates of the Jabiluka and Nabarlek U deposits and of nearby exploration areas were K–Ar dated.
Illite sets Proterozoic tectonic events at ∼1774, 1656, 1600, 1554, 1457, 1425, 1371, 1355 and 1318 Ma.
Most of the host rocks underwent hydrothermal processes, mainly during 350 Ma from ∼1650 to 1300 Ma monitored by migrating basin-derived brines.
Detected in the basin and the basement, illitization at ∼1656, 1600, 1554 Ma is associated with U.
207Pb/206Pb ages from 1300 to 500 Ma on UO2 indicate reset U–Pb isotopic systems not linked to illitization.
