Dunhuang Complex records 3.1–2.5 Ga, ∼2.0–1.9 Ga and 1.9–1.8 Ga tectonothermal events.

Archean crust in Dunhuang region was mainly formed at ∼2.7–2.6 Ga and ∼2.56–2.45 Ga.

Archean rocks underwent Paleoproterozoic (∼2.0–1.8 Ga) orogeny-related metamorphism.

Dunhuang Complex widely experienced ca. 400–440 Ma orogeny-related metamorphism.

Precambrian basement in Dunhuang region may be different parts of Tarim-North China Craton.
