A nested RT-PCR, targeting nsp2 gene, to differentiateing PRRSV variants was developed.
192 of 550 clinical samples from non-PRRSV-vaccinated pig herd were tested positively by the nested RT-PCR.
Of the 192 positive samples, 107 were infected with a single strain and 85 were infected with two strains.
HP-PRRSV containing a 90-bp deletion in the nsp2 gene remained the predominant strain.
This assay could be useful in the area where different type of live vaccines were used.
