We propose a general framework for bio-separation network synthesis and analysis. A four-stage general superstructure is proposed. Methods for case-specific simplifications and effective modeling are presented. Effective synthesis and analysis of a range of separation networks are performed. The framework enables the assessment of emerging biomass-to-chemicals technologies.
