Roll-out instability of small size fiber-reinforced elastomeric isolators in unbonded applications

Fiber-reinforced isolators perform roll-over deformation under lateral loads.

Roll-over is stable if moment of vertical forces is higher than moment of horizontal forces.

If this condition is not verified, the isolator experiences roll-out instability.

Tests show that roll-out is governed by vertical compression and specimen aspect ratio.

Proposed model for roll-out takes instantaneous horizontal stiffness into account.
