A composite P–T path is reconstructed for an ultra-hot, CITZ granulite sample. A sequential diffusion chronometry tool along non-linear P–T paths is developed. The tool provides quantitative T  –t/dt/d (depth) details of short-lived thermal pulses. The results allow quantification of the dynamics of ancient hot orogenic processes.
