To describe the prevalence of neurological symptoms in pregnancy disorders with gestational induced hypertension (GH) and chronic arterial hypertension (CAH).
We conducted a 5 years retrospective study with hospital reports of pregnant women diagnosed with GH and CAH based on the cases of a Southern Brazil Hospital (Complexo Hospital de Clínicas – UFPR). The statistical analysis was expressed in percentage.
452 pregnancies were included in our study. 54% in the GH group and 46% the CAH group. Table shows the neurological symptoms prevalence found in the prenatal period of pregnancy hypertensive disorders. Data presented as n (%).
Others neurological symptoms observed were focal weakness (0.8% in GH; 0.5% in CAH), aphasia (0.4% in GH; 1% in CAH), psychosis (0.4% in GH; 0.5% in CAH), hemiparesis and facial nerve palsy (both 1% in CAH).
The most prevalent neurological symptoms found in this study were headache, nuchal pain and visual scotomas. These symptoms are related with high risk of complications in hypertensive disorders.
