Upper Cretaceous altered ash-beds from Northeastern Mexico have been studied.
According to UPb dating in zircon, the deposit occurred between 84.6 and 73.7 Ma.
Geochemistry data indicate a rhyodacitic to rhyolitic composition.
Ash-beds have an affinity to continental arc in transition to extension setting.
The origin of the San Felipe ash beds is probably linked to Laramide Magmatic Arc.
