Highly efficient dye-sensitized solar cells achieved through using Pt-free Nb2O5/C composite counter electrode and iodide-free redox couples

We synthesized a composite of Nb2O5/C for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs).

The catalytic activities of Nb2O5/C were enhanced remarkably as compared with Nb2O5.

The improved catalytic activity of the composite can be attributed to the enhanced surface area and conductivity.

The DSCs using Nb2O5/C counter electrode showed a high efficiency of 9.86%.
